About Sari Sari Sweets

Sari Sari Sweets produces sweet and savory pastries that incorporate as many local ingredients available within a 50 mile radius of Chapel Hill North Carolina. Sari Sari means, "a variety" in Tagalog the Filipino language. Our menu is forever changing and evolving with the seasons. We are a small home based family business on a mission to create food that supports small farmers, small businesses, and the community.

About Our Baker

Leslie Heintzman was adopted from the Philippines in 1987 and grew up in Roanoke Virginia. For as long as she can remember food was always a passion that eventually turned into an obsession. Her first job in the food industry was in 1998 as a server in a local restaurant which gave her the first glimpse into the hectic life of a restaurant worker. Soon after she worked in a bakery, a gourmet catering company, and a cafe. In 2001 while she was in college studying music, she realized her real passion was cooking so she applied to The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY and enrolled in May 2003 to get a degree in Culinary Arts. During her studies she worked in numerous upscale restaurants from Italian, Regional American, and French Cuisine. After graduation she moved to Chapel Hill, North Carolina and worked at Four Square Restaurant in Durham, NC for two years and a local bakery in Carrboro, NC for almost two years before starting Sari Sari Sweets. She now sells her pastries at the Carrboro Farmers Market and UNC Hospital on a weekly basis and lives with her husband and son in Chapel Hill, NC.
